A Raw and good first impression

India’s Raw Star managed to live up to all the hype

Mumbai:Honey Singh’s much-talked-about TV debut India’s Raw Star managed to live up to all the hype. The first episode aired on Sunday and we were relieved to see that unlike most other reality shows, there were no sob stories that hogged the limelight. Instead, all the contestants introduced themselves in a fun way.

The mix of contestants is also interesting and there is some serious talent to engage the viewers. There is Jeffery Iqbal from the US, who surprised all with his rendition of Tere Mast Mast Do Nain. Suraj Biswas’ take on the blues was impressive and Mohan Rathore from UP, the man behind the Bhojpuri hit Tu Lagave Jo Lipistick, was another wonder.
The contestants and the music they have to offer caters to all genres. That is a big plus as most shows of this kind stick to Bollywood. Honey is anything but a serious judge. He keeps up the fun mood with his witty comments. He also started off the show on a high note with a power-packed performance. Gauhar Khan is okay as she sometime tends to go over the top with her reactions.
The one thing we found to be odd was the foreign dancers appearing out of nowhere in between acts. But otherwise, the opening episode was certainly impressive and we hope the show maintains its uniqueness and doesn’t lose its good points.
