Supreme Court refuses to defer UPSC exam
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Saturday refused to stay the UPSC preliminary exam scheduled for Sunday, rejecting a petition seeking postponement of the exam, on the ground that the issues raised had already been resolved. “You raised only questions on the comprehension part that has already been removed and the defect has been remedied,” the SC told the petitioner, a civil services aspirant. It also stressed that nine lakh students are ready to appear on Sunday for the test.
The UPSC, following the Union government’s statement in the Parliament, had notified the new marking scheme for the civil services preliminary examination 2014, wherein the marks for English comprehension would not be counted for gradation. The UPSC has asked examinees to leave the questions in the section unanswered as they would not be evaluated. The two hour duration of the paper, however, would remain unchanged.
