Traffic havoc as roads dug up

Pipeline works taken up along crowded roads

Hyderabad:The ongoing pipeline work by the Water Board is playing havoc with heavy traffic on the arterial route from Liberty junction to Nimboliadda. The 4-km stretch has been dug up at various spots aggravating the misery of regular commuters. Additionally, huge drilling machinery has been placed in the middle of the road reducing its width.
According to official sources, pipeline works have been taken up in phases since the past four years. The old pipelines are being replaced with the new 1.8 diametre ones.
Harish Samtaney, a regular commuter on this route said, “It is frustrating to travel with my children in the morning when I drop them to school. My wife finds it even more difficult when she picks them up in the afternoon as autorickshaws crowd eat up all available space”
Buses also ply regularly on the same roads making it even more difficult for two-wheeler riders. Rameshwar Rao, operations director, Water Board, said, “Of the total stretch, work has been completed in about 3 km to 4 km. Narayanguda and King Koti are the only two places where the pipeline works are still ongoing since the past two years. This is due to the lack of funds and the Metro rail works. However, the pending work in these two areas is likely to be completed by end of December this year.”
