Rs. 2.6 crore saplings to be planted in Anantapur

It is decided to encourage growing of saplings at nurseries under water shed programme

Anantapur: Collector Solomon Arogyaraj on Saturday said that Rs. 2.60 crore saplings would be planted in the district to make Anantapur-drought free.

Talking to media persons at camp office after emerging from a meeting with the officials of horticulture, agriculture, revenue, forest, sericulture, micro irrigation, the collector said that the meeting had decided to plant Rs. 2.60 crore saplings for 2014-15.

The meeting also decided to encourage growing of saplings at nurseries under water shed programme.

The officials informed the collector that the nurseries have capacity to grow 50 lakh saplings in the district.

The collector asked the officials to submit a comprehensive report departmentwise by August 25 for growing one crore horticulture saplings in nurseries.

He also directed the officials to submit a report on existing infrastructure and water facilities to grow nurseries in the district.

He asked the officials gear up for growing nurseries from October 1.

The collector also directed the officials to create awareness among people about the growing of plants to protect environmental balance. He said that

Vanamahotsavam would begin from Penukonda on Aug.27.
