Ranjini still waiting for action against FB abusers
Abusers from Gulf; cops waiting for response from overseas authorities
ALAPPUZHA: Television anchor Ranjini Haridas is still waiting for action against those abusing her on her Facebook page. The abusers are based in the Gulf and the police say they are waiting for response from the authorities there. But with the state police tying up with Gulf countries to crack down on cyber criminals, she hopes she will get justice soon. Haridas had registered two complaints with the cyber cell in Kochi in May this year as a follow up to a complaint that she had lodged with the same department in May 2013.
“I keep sending the details of the perpetrators to the investigation officers, including Kochi South CI, but no positive response has been received yet,” she said. Mr N. Vinayakumaran Nair, Assistant Commandant, State HiTech Inquiry Cell, told DC that a case had been registered at Ernakulam south police station as cr. No.657/13 U/s 66A of IT Act 2000 (Amended 2008) in respect of Ms Haridas’s petition.
“Even though we requested the Facebook authorities for log-in and registration details for the objectionable FB creations and postings, they replied a year ago that that those were done from beyond the border of the country. Now as per the fresh petition, the inquiry officer is trying to get the details through MLAT (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty), an agreement between the two countries,” he said.
