Badaun girls kin threaten to end life
Lucknow: A day after the CBI dismissed rape of the Badaun victims, their family members threatened to hang themselves from the same mango tree, where the teenage duo were found hanging on May 27 this year. Forensic tests have reportedly ruled out sexual assault in the alleged rape and murder case. CBI officials have said that the case seems to be one of honour killings involving the family. Questioning the latest twist in the case, the victim’s family has however, said that the accused had admitted to the crime in front of the villagers.
“Hours after the crime was unearthed, one of the accused Pappu Yadav had confessed in front of villagers that he and six others, were responsible for the crime. If justice is not done, my entire family and I will hang ourselves on the same tree,” the father of the victims said. “When Pappu Yadav was brought here on remand, he had taken the cops to the spot of crime and described everything. Then how is the CBI claiming otherwise?” the father asked.
The CBI claimed that the main witness, who saw the accused forcibly taking the girls away, was paid Rs 1 lakh by the victim’s family. Both the witness and the family said that it had been a loan for the witness’ father’s treatment.
“That night I heard a girl crying for help. I focussed the torch in that direction and saw four people dragging the girls. I could only recognise Pappu Yadav. We got into a fight and when he took out his pistol, I ran away,” the witness had said. Meanwhile CM Akhilesh Yadav said, “Media wasted two months on Badaun incident, the US and the UN also took note of it, but what was shown about it has been proved false.”
