Aam Aadmi Party joins hospital protest

Tension prevails as Hepatitis C patients shifted for dialysis
Chennai: Over 100 persons, including members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), sat on a fast in front of the dean’s office at Stanley medical hospital along with relatives of patients infected with Hepatitis C.
The members had earlier sat in front of the dean’s office, demanding treatment for Hepatitis C and the original kidney problem for which the patients were on dialysis. The patients said they were told on Friday to continue dialysis and treatment for Hepatitis C at the Tamil Nadu government multi super specialty hospital. On Saturday, a team of AAP members, led by Chandramohan, gathered at the hospital around 10 am and demanded that treatment be continued at the same hospital.
Later, the hospital authorities agreed to their demand. Thilagavathy of Kumbakonam, whose husband was affected, said, “The hospital officials have now allotted a separate ward for Hepatitis C positive-dialysis patients on the ground floor. As many as 13 patients were admitted so far, blood samples were collected and scans taken.”
However, tension prevailed till night at the hospital as relatives of the patients and AAP members demanded a written statement that both the treatment would be done here.
Stella, an AAP member, said the police forced them to leave the hospital threatening arrest.
