High-end prams: Precious wheels for your precious little one
Silver Cross Balmoral for Aston Martin - £2,000 ($3,340)
It is not the most expensive baby wheels, but boy does it have some pedigree! With a rich history and for being one of the most practical luxury strollers, Silver Cross is the choice of celebrities. For around over 128 years, the Silver Cross has just been handcrafting some traditional prams in the Northern England. With Aston Martin’s backing, you can expect a baby 007 cruising by on what is a combination of old wealth and cutting edge technology. The Silver Cross Balmoral also boasts around three coats of the high shine lacquer, English leather and is also painted by the hand and is individually numbered.
The aluminum alloy wheels are based on the $1.8 million Aston Martin One-77, the leather is an exact match to that used in the cars, and its air-ride suspension “guarantees a smooth ride for all”.
Bugaboo Donkey stroller - £1,200 ($2,000)
This is the current A-list must-have and has patrons from Catherine Duchess of Cambridge to Lily Allen vouching for it. A high-end buggy that’s the equivalent of a Rolls Royce for babies, Bugaboo Donkey was the first stroller to break the £1,000 mark.
Boasting an expandable frame, it transforms with a click from a one-seater to a two-seater. At 29 inches wide, it’s also one of the narrowest buggies out there.
Its innovative side luggage basket and large underseat basket means there’s enough storage space for your shopping or a day out and about — with easy access to both — your child can stay sound asleep in the bassinet or reclinable seat. Large swivel wheels and the height-adjustable handlebar guarantee manoeuvrability in places you’d never imagine you could go.
Brio Go 2014 collection - $1,200
Of all the strollers that make it to this list, the Brio Go’s combination of the stroller, carrycot and carseat is possibly the most value for money. Sure that is not a big priority on this list, but it certainly makes the Brio Go a top contender for those without a budget but want a good deal nevertheless. The Brio Go + carrycot + Cybex Aton 3 model has a light, flexible, and impressively minimalistic frame. Its large rear wheels and lockable, front swivel wheels help manoeuvrability on your journeys. Thanks to the special adapter system, all components can be quickly and securely attached and removed.
Thanks to the different positions of the backrest and footrests, you are guaranteed to find the right seated or reclined position for your child’s needs. The safety bar and 5-point belt provide the necessary security. One extremely practical feature is the hood’s ventilation flap with integrated mosquito net.
Fendi-Inglesina Classic Logo Pram - £1,324 ($2,212)
It is half of the cost of the most expensive stroller/pram on this list but Fendi-Inglesina’s Classic Pram is undoubtedly the most stylish. It is a throw back to class and decadence of yesteryear and symbol of luxury. On top of its chic look, the pram boasts an impressive array of useful functions including a multi-position recline, practical carrying straps attached to the carrycot and full suspension.
Inspired by the traditional sophisticated prams of the British Court the pram is an icon of elegance and style, and combined with Fendi’s efforts here’s one pram that you get that is individually hand made in Italy. The frame features a pure leather handle and with hooks for a diaper bag. With chrome plated hood and joints, the pram also has a tailored privacy curtain made with delicate organza.
The Roddler $4,495
Currently rated as one of the swankiest set of wheels for a toddler, you’d be forgiven for thinking your child is riding a car. Well at least the thought process involves a Hot Rod for your toddler, hence the name. If the design is a throwback to an era of the past, it’s only because the body has been modelled around the hugely popular Buick of the 1950s. With a “chassis” that is typical of aircraft designs, this is one of the most loaded, modern stroller with a vintage look.
The Roddler can be totally customised — right from having the child’s name on it — and comes loaded with an iPod dock or a DVD player of your choice. Yes, just what one needs for a walk in the park. Of course it may be too early for your child to know the worth of the custom seats made of rare ostrich, stingray, alligator or cow hide, but the Roddler has seat covers like no other contender of strollers offers. Fitted with fenders and lights, a toddler in a Roddler promises to be one hell of a rockstar in the park!
