‘Broke’ Telangana State council seeks Andhra Pradesh funding
The TSCHE has no funds since a proper division of assets has not been carried out
Hyderabad:Telangana’s newly formed higher education standards body, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), does not have even a single rupee to run its offices and will be requesting the AP State Council of Higher Education to grant a ‘seeding’ fund to pay for its expenses.
The TSCHE has no funds to run its show since a proper division of assets has not been carried out. APSCHE is said to have assets worth over Rs 100 crore, which would be equally divided between the two Councils. However, there is no indication as to when the division will be carried out.
TSCHE officials are thus finding it hard to begin any work due to the absolute lack of funds. “There is no money to even pay for photocopies. We are paying for whatever expenses that are being incurred from our own pockets,” a senior TSCHE official said.
The TSCHE has also written to the government regarding this and is now writing to the APSCHE seeking funds to run its offices. A drafted letter states that TSCHE needs a seeding grant of Rs 2 crore to bear its expenditure since the assets have not been divided yet.
However, it remains to be seen if the APSCHE accepts this request as it still does not recognise the TSCHE. The Telangana state government formed its own Council of Higher Education after the APSCHE issued notification for the commencement of Eamcet counselling in the two states.
Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, appointed Prof T. Papi Reddy as chairman of the TSCHE along with vice-chairmen and secretaries.
