Nagar and another at the Southern Railway office in Park Town were reported. Though no casualties were reported, as many as 23 fire tenders were pressed into service in the small hours on Friday.
Fire and rescue services teams reached the godown of a popular store located in a lane off Ranganathan street at around 3.30 am and took nearly two hours to douse the fire that broke out on the third floor. The fire control room revealed that an electrical short circuit could have triggered the fire. No one was injured in the fire.
Goods, mainly plastic, stored in the godown were damaged in the fire. As many as 15 fire tenders were pressed into service by fire control to make sure the fire did not spread to other buildings in Ranganathan street, which is the shopping hub of Chennai. Luckily, the shops had shut long before the fire broke out.
