December 16 victim’s mother hits out at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley
'No rape is small, each rape is shameful for a country '
New Delhi: Regretting his “small rape incident” remark, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said, “I am very sensitive to these issues myself ... there is no question of trivialising any crime or any particular incident.” He added that he had spoken “in general” on how crimes against women can dissuade tourists from coming to India.”
Criticising Mr Jaitley’s remarks, the December 16 victim’s mother said, “He disappointed me. During the elections they had used my daughter’s name for political gain, and after coming to power they call it a small incident.” Her father added, “No rape is small, each rape is shameful for a country... Politicians should remember that when they speak, not only our country but the whole world listens.”
