Two days after release, civil rights activist Irom Sharmila rearrested
'She will be nose-fed forcibly like what was done earlier'
Guwahati: In what has created anger among the human rights activists, the police re-arrested civil rights activist Irom Sharmila Chanu in Imphal on Friday on same charges — attempt to commit suicide — in which the district session court of Imphal had exonerated her on Wednesday.
Her arrest came a day after the deputy CM of Manipur Mr Gaikhangam, who also holds the home portfolio, said that the government is taking care for her safety and health.
Ms Sharmila who was released from judicial custody on Wednesday continued with her hunger strike which she started in November 5, 2000 in a protest against the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. She will be nose-fed forcibly like what was done earlier,” a police official said.
