Bengaluru: A nine-year-old mentally challenged girl was sexually abused in Vishwa Vijetha Residential School for Mentally Challenged in Raibaugh in Belgaum district recently.
The incident came to light only after the victim, who was ill for a while, was admitted to KC General Hospital in Bengaluru.
The victim from Madanayakanahalli was admitted to the residential school only two months ago. On August 9, the school principal called the victim’s parents and told them that the girl had to be taken home as she was not keeping well. The parents, however, alleged that the staff told them that the girl had her periods.
After bringing her home, the parents admitted her to a local hospital, but there was no improvement in her health.
She was later admitted KC General Hospital, where the doctors, who examined her, told the parents that she had been sexually abused.
The parents immediately filed a complaint with the Malleswaram police station.
A complaint was registered in the Malleswaram police station and was later transferred to Raibaugh police station.
In another incident, A 19-year-old second year BCA student was raped by her friend from the same college at a lodge in Kalasipalaya police station limits on August 17. The police have arrested the accused, identified as Vikram Singh Jat (22) a third year nursing student, the next day after the victim filed a complaint.
According to the police, the woman got to know Vikram through Facebook and became friends as they happened to be from the same college. Police said on Sunday Vikram had picked up the woman from her paying guest accommodation around 8.30 am, under the pretext of spending some time with her, as it was a holiday.
Vikram told the victim that they could spend some time at a lodge in Kalasipalaya, before picking up his father who was scheduled to arrive at the airport on the same day. They checked in Taiba lodge around 9.30 am and told the hotel staff that they were cousins, and checked out at 9 pm, police added.
In her complaint to the police, the woman stated that Vikram raped her multiple times at the lodge and frightened her to silence. Later he dropped her at her PG accommodation in the night.
Next day the woman approached the Kalasipalaya police and lodged a complaint against Vikram.
The police arrested Vikram the same day and produced him before the magistrate and remanded him in judicial custody.
The victim hailed from Bihar and was staying at a PG near her college. “We have booked a case of rape and criminal intimidation on the accused and the investigations are underway,” said Rajendra Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chickpet sub-division.
