Chief Ministers’ heckling planned: Congress

Jharkhand CM was the latest entrant to be booed in front of PM
New Delhi: Following incidents of Opposition Chief Ministers being booed and jeered at while sharing a stage with the Prime Minister ,the Congress has asked its chief ministers to “boycott” Mr Modi’s functions, while the BJP warned the CMs not to breach constitutional proprieties.
Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan, who on Saturday had been forced to stop speaking midway after being heckled by BJP supporters at an event in Solapur, on Thursday decided to skip the “bhumipujan” of the Metro project in Nagpur where Mr Modi was also present.
On Thursday, an angry Jharkhand CM, a Congress ally, hit out at the BJP, saying: “Federalism ka balatkar kar diya (It’s like raping the federal system).” Mr Soren, who was booed by BJP supporters who attended the Ranchi function in large numbers, said: “The PM must look into it. The federal system he talks about... I feel it is like raping the system. There is a plan to break it. And it is an attempt to play politics, but it will not work for long.”
Announcing a boycott of Mr Modi’s functions, the Maharashtra CM said the federal structure of the nation had been undermined at these programmes in Congress-ruled states. As Mr Soren got up to speak at the Ranchi function, BJP supporters there began chanting “Modi Modi”.
With the all-saffron crowd refusing to let the CM continue his speech, Mr Modi finally had to intervene, and raised his hands, asking his supporters to allow the CM to speak. The Congress alleged that this was an “orchestrated” and “well-planned conspiracy” by the BJP.
AICC general secretary Ambika Soni said Mr Modi should immediately ask his partymen to desist from this kind of behaviour.
