Bihar minister's son battling for life after suspected ragging

‘Doctors said it seems to be a suspected case of throttling to death’

Patna: Bihar Cooperative minister Jai Kumar Singh claimed that his son Adarsh Kumar Singh is battling for life at a hospital in Delhi after suspected ragging.

Singh told over phone on Friday that his son Adarsh was in Scindia School, Gwalior.

He said the school authority told him that his son tried to commit suicide on Wednesday night and was in serious condition.

"But, I strongly dispute this that my son tried to commit suicide. Even doctors attending on him at Apollo hospital said it does not seems a case of suicide but that of suspected case of throttling to death," the minister alleged.

The boy, a student of class IX, was taken to Delhi and is treated at Apollo hospital, the minister who is attending his son, said.

The minister said that his son had complained to his mother in the past about harassment from seniors. But, we never thought the matter was so serious.

Asked if he has lodged any complaint with the police in the incident, Singh said "presently we are busy saving life of the child. But will take up the matter with the school authority definitely."

The condition of 14-year-old Adarsh Kumar is critical.

Kumar, who is believed to have attempted suicide after an alleged ragging incident at a school in Gwalior, was admitted to the hospital at around 8.30 am on Thursday.

He is admitted in the neuro ICU and is on ventilator. He is being treated under the supervision of Dr M S Chaudhary, internal medicine physician.

"The patient was brought to the hospital yesterday at 8:30 AM in a very critical condition and was immediately attended to by our team of experts," said a senior doctor from Apollo.

"He is being provided appropriate medical care by a competent multidisciplinary team of senior consultant doctors. He is under constant monitoring and is on ventilator support in the ICU," doctor said.
