Metro is used as bad road ‘excuse’

About 70 per cent of the road on the Narayanguda Musheerabad stretch is in a deplorable condition
Hyderabad:The Hyderabad Metro Rail project is the ready excuse of the GHMC when it comes to not maintaining broken, pot-holed roads. About 70 per cent of the road on the Narayanguda Musheerabad stretch is in a deplorable condition and the irony is that no action is being taken even on those roads where the Metro is yet to start its activities.
About one-fourth of the road cannot be used due to sand and construction material left behind from the demolished buildings.
The whole stretch is full of uneven patches leading to extreme inconvenience for commuters, especially two-wheeler riders. “I have a slip disk problem, and the road is in a terrible state. Be it for me or any other person, the ride is not at all comfortable.
I am forced to take a longer route to go to Secunderabad from Chikkadpally,” said K. Shashank, a resident of Chikkadpally. “Regular re-carpeting work cannot be done as Metro Rail works like digging and drilling are about to begin. We will have to fix the roads after the Metro work gets over. Meanwhile, we can check the areas where the roads are severely damaged and do the needful in a day or two,” said a source.
