Evacuation from Indigo at Delhi airport leaves 28 hurt
Some passengers received minor injuries during the evacuation
New Delhi: Dense smoke was seen coming out of an IndiGo A-320 as it landed at Delhi’s IGI Airport Wednesday afternoon, prompting all 154 persons on board, including six crew, to be evacuated via emergency slide chutes immediately after it came to a halt on the taxiway. It was later found a snag had developed in its landing gear.
Some passengers received minor injuries during the evacuation, and were attended to, but no one was seriously hurt, it said. Altogether 28 people were said to have been injured, including one who had a suspected fracture.
The airline later clarified there was no fire on Flight 6E-176 from Mumbai, and that it had landed normally on runway 27 at 3.35 pm.
The ATC controllers observed think smoke coming out of the plane’s left-side lower portion as it landed and alerted the pilots, sources said. The DGCA has begun an inquiry, and preliminary indications are that the smoke came from the left brake assembly of the landing gear.
This is the second such incident involving an IndiGo aircraft in past few months.
