Appalling facilities at passport offices
Lack of basic facilities plagues the Passport Seva Kendras in Hyderabad
Hyderabad:Lack of basic facilities plagues the Passport Seva Kendras in Hyderabad, many applicants complain. Though passport officials claim that it takes about 90 minutes for an applicant to submit the necessary documents at the PSK, applicants said that they end up waiting for over four hours.
Syed Shah Hussaini, an applicant at the Begumpet PSK, said he waited for five hours to complete his documentation process. “I went on a weekday to avoid the rush, but even then there was too much chaos. The officials allow 300 people, whereas the seating capacity at the PSK, in Begumpet is for about a 100 people.”
Section A has 25 counters, whereas the other two sections have eight counters each. So, this is where there is a crowd. “When they are giving people time windows, why must one wait? Either expedite the process or increase the time frame. The online procedure is simplified, but the physical verification is tiresome,” he added.
Hyderabad has three Passport Seva Kendras — Begumpet, Ameerpet and Toli Chowki. There are PSKs at Tirupati, Vijayawada and Nizamabad as well. At the Hyderabad PSK, people from Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nalgonda, Warangal, Mahbubnagar and Kurnool have to apply. “This explains the number of people, who come here. And when they come from such faraway places, things should be made easier for them,” said an applicant waiting at the PSK.
It is mandatory for all the applicants to submit their applications for a passport only at the PSKs. The Regional Passport Office now only deals with VIP submissions and also caters to any grievances from people, regarding change of personal details, addition of spouse name, post their wedding among others.
Some pay for parking violations given the lack of parking zone for the PSK. It shares parking space with other offices forcing people to park their vehicles on the road.
