CM Tarun Gogoi for new force to guard Assam state border
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said that his government has decided to set up Border Area Development Council and raise a separate battalion of border police.
After visiting three relief camps in Upper Assam’s Golaghat district where more than 7500 people were rendered homeless after Naga miscreants attacked disputed areas, Mr Gogoi said, “Police have recovered only nine bodies so far. We have asked the police to prepare the list of those reported missing.”
During the visit the CM’s convoy was attacked by protesters. Mr Gogoi was unhurt in the attack but two vehicles of his convoy were damaged, police said.
Assam home commissioner Gyanendra Tripathy, who is camping in the trouble-torn area said that CRPF has told Nagaland police to guard the Naga villages and Assam Police to guard the villages of Assam inside the disputed territory.
