Central Acts hamper functioning, says Central Bureau of Investigation
New Delhi: At a time when the Modi government is planning to do away with redundant acts to smoothen administration, the CBI is facing a diametrically opposite problem. The probe has written to the department of personnel and training (DoPT) seeking immediate notification of certain sections pertaining to more than half a dozen Central acts that is ‘hampering’ it’s functioning, besides enacting on its jurisdiction and scope for probe.
The agency has sought notification of several provisions of laws under section 3 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, which governs the CBI.
Majority of the agency officials believe that notification will further empower the CBI to widen the ambit of its probe in certain cases. Talking to this newspaper, the CBI director, Ranjit Sinha, said, “Notification of certain provisions of some Central acts will certainly help the CBI to work more effectively. Besides, it will further enhance the CBI’s power to probe certain specific cases. We are hopeful that the centre will take a positive view”.
