Police to keep tabs on relatives who bail snatchers out

Hyderabad: Chain snatchers escape the police by shifting houses frequently. The Cyberabad police are now going to track these 'mobile criminals' by keeping tabs on their relatives and friends who bailed them out. Special teams are on the job to nab the estimated 100 chain snatchers active in the city and its outskirts. Police plan to arrest them in connection with previous cases, and also to execute the NBWs pending against them.
“We have made a list of 100 chain snatchers according to the gravity of their crimes by analysing FIRs. Steps have also been taken to execute the pending NBWs against them,” said additional DCP Janaki Sharmila.The Cyberabad police is also publcising the photos of snatchers to alert citizens. When police open history sheets about criminals they usually record their residential address and other details. However, the changing of houses frequently put the police in difficulty.
“When a habitual offender gets bail, we usually track him and his house. However, sometimes they disappear from the area and shift to some other place,” said a police officer from Cyberabad. Chain snatcher Siva, who was killed in a police encounter, and his gang had changed houses four times in a year. Most of the chainsnatchers leave the city for a while after committing offences. “They snatch some chains, sell them, and travel to holiday destinations with the money,” said ADCP Janaki Sharmila.
Meanwhile, the police believe that the killing of Siva has frightened criminals, and it may bring down the number of chain snatching cases in the city. Police officials are also concerned that unlike other crimes most of the fresh criminals are involved in chain snatching cases. Cops say the freshers are aged between 18 and 25 years, and are out to earn easy money for funding their lavish life.
Among them, there are a large number of students too.
Police officials said that since the frequency of crimes and detection is high in chain snatching cases, there are several cases pending in court. The Cyberabad cops have decided to speed up the filing of chargesheets in pending cases in which investigations are going on so that trials can be speeded up.
