The smartphone that survived at the sea for six weeks
Sony has been known for making waterproof phones lately. Most of their high-end Z-series smartphones are made water-tight with the IP58 certification, using which the company states that the phone can survive only for 30 minutes under water at a depth of 1.5 meters.
In a true life incident, Gothenburg resident Alexander Maxen was on a holiday when accidentally dropped his Sony Xperia Z2 when he jumped into the sea. The phone slipped into the water and headed into deep sea to finally rest at the bottom of the sea, almost 10 meters deep.
Alexander lost hope of the phone and headed back to the island. He later tried calling the phone and to his surprise it was still ringing. However, he did not go ahead to retrieve it and blocked his SIM card to get a new one.
Six weeks later, he and a friend was in the same area, scuba diving and they spotted the phone at the bottom of the sea floor. After retrieving the Xperia Z2, they found the rear glass panel cracked and the phone battery dead, with a few scuffs near the earphone jack.
They headed back to dry land and plugged in a charger, only to find that the smartphone was charging, and a few hours later it worked perfectly fine. Maxen decided to keep the battered phone as a remembrance of the journey and did not give the handset for repairs.
