Women’s International Interdisciplinary Congress kicks off at Hyderabad University

The six-day conference will have workshops all through the week
Hyderabad: More than 900 delegates met at the University of Hyderabad on the first day of the the 12th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women on Sunday.
This is the first time that the congress is being held in India and the theme is ‘Gender in a changing world’. India’s ‘missile woman’ Cessy Thomas was the chief guest. About 750 panels and abstracts were received from different parts of the world including Brazil, Germany, Korea, Canada and Israel.
The six-day conference will have workshops all through the week on topics centring around trafficking of women, new reproductive technologies, role of education in empowerment of women, feminist research and more. The congress targets research scholars, policy makers, NGOs, students, company representatives, corporates.
It aims at creating a gender-just society and to provide resources and opportunities to interact with prominent leaders on women studies, said Prof. Rekha Pande, head of HCU’s history department who is also the congress director.
