Congress confused over recovery route for upcoming state Assebbly Elections

Congress has been in power in Maharashtra, Haryana & shared power with NC in J&K

New Delhi: The Congress is yet to decide whether to focus on building strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir or hold an AICC meeting or a ‘chintan shivir’ before these polls to boost morale of the rank and file.

A section of the party feels that the priority should be on winning elections in these states than either calling an AICC meeting or a 'chintan shivir’. However, others view that holding an AICC meeting or a brain storming session is more important as it will boost morale of the rank and file, give new directions to workers.

This will be the first electoral battle after the Lok Sabha polls which can see the impact of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, local issues and a possibility of political realignment against the BJP whose primarty objective is to form governments on its own.

The Congress has been in power in Maharashtra and Haryana and shared power with the NC in Jammu and Kashmir and the JMM in Jharkhand. If it succeeds in retaining power even in one state, it will be seen as a big victory.

The Congress will be fighting the polls in alliance with the NCP in Maharashtra and likely with the RJD, JD(U) in Jharkhand. But it will go alone in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
