Tollywood is hitting the road

There has been a surge in movie promotions across cities in both states
Hyderabad: Following the state’s division, Tollywood filmmakers have come to realise that it may not be enough to promote their films only in Hyderabad. They feel that the promotional activities should focus on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh separately.
In case of some of the recent films, the cast and crew have visited cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and even Nellore for promotions.
A few days ago, Naga Chaitanya-starrer Oka Laila Kosam had its audio launch in Vijayawada. A large crowd turned out for this event. Locals had not seen many such functions. Same was the case in Visakhapatnam where the fans got a chance to see actor Suriya promote Sikinder.
“Telugu speaking people are now divided in two states, and the politicians have created a bit of uneasiness among them. We, the filmmakers, feel that we must promote our films in both the states. If we do not promote our movies in Andhra Pradesh, the people there may feel bad. That is why most of the films are seeing promotion activities in major cities of Andhra Pradesh as well,” said Thammareddy Bharadwaj, a filmmaker.
“Cinema as a medium unites all Telugu speaking people. I wanted to promote my film in both the states. That is why I held the success meet of the audio function in Vizag,” said Lagadapati Sridhar, producer of Sikinder.
He added that all his upcoming films will be promoted in both the states. “The audio release of Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini will be held in Vijayawada and the success meet in Hyderabad,” he said.
The cast and crew of Geethanjali are also now touring Andhra Pradesh.
They are visiting cities like Vijayawada, Guntur and Nellore. Earlier, Allu Arjun-starrer Race Gurram’s trailer release was held in Rajahmundry. Actor Balakrishna toured all the major cities in Andhra Pradesh to promote his film Legend and in the coming weeks, more film promotions are scheduled to be held in cities such as Vijayawada and Vizag.
“My two earlier films, Emayindi Ee Vela and Racha had done very good business at Visakhapatnam. As a result, I chose to promote my new film Gaalipatam also in Vizag. We got a very good response,” said Sampath Nandi, producer and director. He added that many filmmakers now want to take their films to a wider audience.
Earlier, poster-based publicity was more popular.
“But now the trends have changed. Touring the cities for promotional activities is more in vogue. This ensures good openings and helps sustain the interest in the film for longer,” added Thammareddy.
“If any film needs a good opening, the makers must promote it well. Other than TV ads and posters, if the filmmakers personally visit cities to promote their films, the response is very different. In the coming days, more and more stars will go to other cities and promote their films,” added Chandra Sidharth, a filmmaker.
“Cinema unites all Telugu-speaking people irrespective of boundaries. That is why I held the success meet of my audio in Vizag,” said Lagadapati Sridhar, producer of Sikinder. He added that all his upcoming films will be promoted in states.
“The audio release of Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini will also be held in Vijayawada and the success meet in Hyderabad,” he said.
