Sunil Gavaskar slams Team India for poor performance against England

The batting legend questionned India's temperament to win Tests abroad consistently

London: India’s batting legend Sunil Gavaskar came down heavily on Dhoni-led Team India following their continual poor performance against England in England.

After drawing the first Test of the 5 match Test series, India won the Lord’s Test and were in a lead (1-0). However, their poor show in Southampton and Manchester allowed England to surge ahead in the series 2-1. In the ongoing Oval Test too India had came cropper.

Asked about India’s below par show, Sunil Gavaskar told a news channel, “The Indian players don't have it in them to win regularly abroad. They might win the odd Test but because it is a five-Test series and because of the shortcomings they have, the opposition will be allowed to get back. They will keep winning at home because of the comfort factor. This is a great opportunity lost after beating England at Lord's to take the series lead."

Gavaskar also came down heavily on India’s poor show in fielding; especially in the slips and their batting performance, saying, "The slip cordon is an area of concern because the Indians are not prepared to learn from their mistakes.

"The Indian batsmen are committing the same mistakes, getting out in the same manner. This is a team of talent; some of the players are world class. Errors do creep in, but how you get over them is important."
