Bypoll to Medak Lok Sabha seat notified
CM K. Chandrasekhara Rao won the Medak seat during elections
Hyderabad: The Election Commission on Saturday notified holding bypolls for the vacant Medak Lok Sabha and Nandigama Assembly seats in Telangana and AP states on September 13, for which filing of nomination papers will commence on August 20. However, the EC has yet to announce bypolls for the Allagadda Assembly seat in Kurnool district, which fell vacant following the death of Sobha Nagireddy during campaigning.
Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said the EC will take a decision on holding bypolls in Allagadda. But EC sources said that since a petition on Sobha Nagireddy’s win is pending in the AP High Court the EC will take a decision on it only after seeking legal opinion.
Sources, however, clarified that there was no stay order from AP High court on holding the bypolls. The bypolls gain significance after Medak Lok Sabha seat, vacated by Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao’s resignation following his election from Gajwel Assembly segment falling under the same Lok Sabha segment.

Last date for filing nominations: August 27
