K T Rama Rao sees more IT development

IT and allied sectors’ development potential in Telangana had not reached its peak

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday stressed that there is still a lot of potential for IT industry to be developed in Telangana state. Mr Rao was speaking at the convocation of the IIIT Hyderabad on Saturday. He said the IT and allied sectors’ development potential in Telangana had not reached its peak and there was room for lot of development.

Delivering the convocation address, TCS vice-chairman S. Ramadorai said the country should focus on development of electronics, hardware industry and look at locally manufacturing mobile phones. He said the number of smartphones, already quite huge in the country, is expected to witness a further increase to touch the 20-crore mark in the near future from the current 1.8 crores.

“Focus should be on gadgets and smartphones that can disseminate content in local languages and reach the rural youth,” Mr Ramadorai said. He also said Indian companies should come forward to engage with the student community and encourage them to develop innovative products. IIIT Hyderabad chairman Prof. Raj Reddy said educational institutions should do away with teacher-based learning in the future and introduce student centric learning.
