Employees worry about transfer to Vijayawada

Employee in dilemma to shift from Hyderabad to Vijayawada

Vijayawada: The AP government’s sudden decision to shift its offices from Hyderabad to Vijayawada has left employees in confusion.

Thousands of employees who had settled in Hyderabad have to move to Vijayawada as government offices are being shifted one after the other.

While offices like commissionerates, directorates, ministers’ camp offices and others started to move to Vijayawada, which was recently announced as the interim capital, employees are finding it difficult to cope with the situation as there are problems like shifting children to new schools and finding houses in Vijayawada.

So far, the camp offices of irrigation minister D. Umamaheswara Rao, health and medical education minister K. Srinivas have completely moved to Vijayawada. Also, the camp office of the directorate of groundwater department, which comes under the irrigation ministry, was shifted to the irrigation office premises in the city following the orders of minister Umamaheswara Rao.

“As Hyderabad is the joint capital we thought the government would operate from here for at least some years. But the sudden change has left us in a tough situation. Either, I have to go to Vijayawada alone or bring my family which may not be possible immediately if our department is asked to move,” said a woman working in Hyderabad. Some employees who hail from Krishna and Guntur districts have made arrangements to move to Vijayawada with families. However, the problem of getting admissions for children in Vijayawada schools is severe as half the academic year is over. On the other hand, leaders of employees association had announced that they are ready to move to Vijayawada at any time if the government wants to do so.
