Kochi: A round-the-clock current reservation counter from where commuters can purchase unreserved tickets was opened at the Ernakulam south railway station on Friday. This will help the commuters buy tickets available after preparation of charts till just 30 minutes prior to the departure of trains from the originating stations.
“In normal cases, seat reservation cannot be done if the journey distance is below 200 km but in this case no distance restriction is there. The short distance travellers can reap the maximum benefit,” said a top railway official. For instance, seat reservation cannot be done in trains like Mangala and Netravati from Ernakulam till Kannur. However, if there are unreserved tickets, the commuter can confirm his seat by purchasing the ticket from the dedicated counter. Earlier, the facility was introduced in reservation centres at Ernakulam (counter No 9) and Thiruvananthapuram (counter No 4).
