6.7kg ‘unaccounted for’ gold seized

Hyderabad: The sleuths of the West Zone Task Force nabbed two Mumbai residents who were in possession of gold ornaments weighing about 6.78 kg, worth nearly Rs1.75 crore. The gold was unaccounted for. Cops seized the gold and cellphones from their possession. The accused have been identified as Arif Patan, 27, and Heeralal, 28, both employees of Nakoda Jewellers in Mumbai. They are residents of Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai and natives of Rajasthan.
According to N. Koti Reddy, additional DCP, Task Force, one Hashmuk Sri Jain had given the gold ornaments, weighing about 9.86 kg, without any tax receipts, to the accused. They were told to sell the ornaments to jewelry stores in Hyderabad. On Thursday, Arif and Heeralal came to the city and stayed in the Shanbagh Hotel Deluxe Lodge at Panjagutta.“They sold some ornaments to Jos Alukkas in Panjagutta and J.C. Brothers in Ameerpet.
They were nabbed when lodges were being checked. Both the men failed to produce valid documents or tax receipts for the gold and were taken into custody.” Mr Koti Reddy said.The accused and the seized gold were handed o ver to the income-tax department, Hyderabad, for further action.
