Artist Farhad Tamkanat will soon showcase his latest collection of paintings

Hyderabad: Over the last year, artist Farhad Tamkanat has consciously kept a low profile. But now, his studio is populated with new paintings in watercolours, most of them in a small format.
“I am preparing for a massive solo show and that will feature my new works which are more of a rediscovery of the stylisation from my college days,” he says.
His new paintings do show a departure from his earlier works. The features of the women subjects are very unique. “I used to paint like this in my college days. But you know, immediately after studying you are worried about establishing yourself. After painting for years, inspired by other artists, this has been a sort of rediscovery,” he says. Farhad mostly paints women and the subjects are often seen as if they are gossiping.
“As an artist, I have always observed people and what they were doing. At some point, I noticed that women too indulge in a lot of this ‘observation’,” he says of his signature composition.
But low profile doesn’t really mean he has been completely off the radar. He still entertains direct clients from across the country and a major portion of the Farhad’s work has for years gone into giving back to society.
“I have been associated with the Concern India foundation for over four years now. Only recently they sold two of my works and 50 per cent of the proceeds are what the Foundation takes for their causes, while the artist is paid the rest,” he says.
