IPL Spot Fixing case: Mukul Mudgal reviews probe
Team interacted with investigators in state
Chennai: The Supreme Court appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal panel probing the IPL betting and fixing scam, camping in Chennai on Friday reviewed the investigation by its TN team into the cricket scandal in the state.
Apart from Justice Mudgal, the other panel members L. Nageswar Rao and Nilay Dutta along with BB Misra, IPS, heading its investigation wing, interacted with the TN probe team at a hotel, according to sources, who said the TN team headed by an additional superintendent of police presented the details of the probe. Mudgal panel then advised the TN team on how to proceed further.
The TN team is probing into the alleged IPL betting and fixing scam during season six in the year 2013.
The special team is probing the allegation that Chennai Super Kings team official Gurunath Meiyappan, who is the son- in- law of N Srinivasan, ICC chief, was involved in the scam and also will be looking into the charges that the state CB-CID police failed to follow on the crucial leads when the case was handed over to it in May 2013.
There were also charges of cover up against some officials in CB-CID.
The Mudgal team has powers to investigate, require attendance of witnesses, the power to examine witnesses, the power to search and the power to seize and all other powers necessary for investigation except the power to arrest, a senior official said quoting the SC order.
The Supreme Court in May this year appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal to probe into allegations against former BCCI chief N. Srinivasan, son-in-law Gurunath and Raj Kundra of Rajasthan Royals, and to submit a report by the end of August.
