Independence Day at Kurnool pains Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu
Rs 2,000 crore to be allocated to Polavaram; Independence Day in each district
Kurnool: Delivering his Independence Day speech on Friday after hoisting the tricolour at Kurnool. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that he was pained and deeply hurt as the I-Day celebrations were being held here due to bifurcation of the state. Finding fault with the manner in which the state was bifurcated, Mr Naidu said he was pained by the procedure followed for the division and sought people’s co-operation, including the NRIs’, for leading the state towards development.
“I have hoisted the flag for nine years in Hyderabad. Now, post bifurcation, I have to do it here which pains me a lot as Telugus are divided,” said Mr Naidu adding that the AP government has decided to conduct I-Day celebrations in each district so that infrastructure is developed equally. He also said that since Andhra Pradesh had suffered because of bifurcation, it was the responsibility of the Centre to compensate for the loss.
During his address, he said that the Polavaram project would be allocated Rs 2,000 crore in the Budget and would be completed in four to five years. He added that he would write to the Centre for reimbursement of the money already spent on Polavaram as it has been declared as national project. A Water Grid Corporation would be set up to link reservoirs to cater to domestic and industrial needs and ensure water supply to all panchayats over the next five years.
Mr Naidu also said that the government was chalking out plans to develop the state on lines of the Silicon Valley in the United States. “We have granted IT SEZ to Wipro for providing jobs to 6,400 people, and 13 acres have been allotted to a central organisation for electro-magnetic testing centre. AP will be the first digital state,” he said. He also promised to ensure supply of purified water, uninterrupted power, connectivity and LPG to every household. NTR Arogya Seva will be extended to cover up to Rs 2.5 lakh.
A BC sub-plan for the economic development of the community will also be launched. The government has withdrawn 106 cases involving 4,482 persons out of a total of 952 cases, booked during the anti-bifurcation movement, he said.
Mr Naidu earlier unfurled the national flag and watched the ceremonial I-Day parade at a ground of Andhra Pradesh Special Police. Fourteen contingents of police and 15 tableaus took part in the march past. He addressed the gathering, which included his Cabinet colleagues and top officials.
