Donakonda lacks city life, not fit for AP Pradesh capital: Chandrababu Naidu

Andhra Pradesh CM wants to have capital between Vijayawada and Guntur
Kurnool: Ruling out Donakonda as the capital, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that he is determined to have the capital somewhere between Vijayawada and Guntur, as Donakonda has no “city life”. “What is there in Donakonda, except the land? There is no city close to it. It’s a remote place and a dry area. How can we build a capital in such a place? A capital needs a vibrant city life and various facilities? A capital is not just about office complexes.
It should be a vibrant city too,” said Mr Naidu. In contrast, a place between Vijayawada-Guntur can boost the social life, he observed. Mr Naidu cited the example of institutes like the Veterinary Research Station and the IIT at Idupalapaya in Kadapa, where no faculty member and researcher would like to go and work, as there is no social infrastructure.
Allaying the fears of concentrated development, Mr Naidu said, “Despite the capital being in a central location, we will develop all regions equally. Development will not be concentrated at one place. All areas shall get equal prominence,”
He said all the directorates and commissionerates will be shifted out of Hyderabad to Vijayawada, as part of the temporary capital arrangements. He said the ports and IT township are on the top on the priorities list.
