Chennai: A 19-year-old youth created a flutter on Friday morning when he climbed up a 300-feet tall mobile phone tower at Uthandi on East Coast Road to hoist a national flag.
His ‘patriotism’caused a traffic jam as people crowded below the tower and motorists stopped on the road.
Some people alerted the police fearing the youth might resort to some mischief. “When our team reached there, he was climbing down after hoisting the flag at the top of the tower.
When we questioned him, he identified himself as Kumaran of Adyar. He has just completed his plus two and claimed that he climbed the tower only to hoist the national flag and prove his patriotism”, said Kanathur police inspector Asokan. He said the youth was sent away after a stiff warning.
