Modi speech impresses Bengalureans
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence speech was appreciated for raising vital issues
Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 65-minute long maiden Independence Day speech on Friday was appreciated by many in the city for raising vital issues plaguing the country and steering away from clichés and conventions.
Breaking away from the tradition of written speeches, the Prime Minister spoke extempore in Hindi from the ramparts of the Red Fort and that too without the customary bullet-proof glass shield.

The man is very practical as he is starting with the basics like toilet facilities for girls and sanitation, which should have been done 40 years ago. He also spoke about improving the productivity of government servants, which is a welcome change. Overall, he connected well with people and I feel good about his speech

It was something entirely different speech from a Prime Minister of this country, something never heard before. He had touch upon many vital issues. What is refreshing to see is that he is not thinking in terms of industrial boom and foreign relations, but in terms of neglected India

I liked the fact that he was passionate. It is good to see that he spoke about a lot of child issues and developing toilets in school. However, he addressed the nation like a showman, I wish he was humble.

For the first time, the Independence Day speech of the Prime Minister from the Red Fort was a reflection of a definite deviation from the monotonous stereotype speeches by most of the previous incumbents. Not only because of the removal of the traditional bullet-proof glass enclosure, but the speech appeared to be straight from the heart to be heard by the nation, instead of the usually scripted written speeches we have been getting year after year.
