Demand for new district intensifies in Telangana
TRS had promised to increase the number of districts in the state to 24
Khammam: Demands to carve a new district out of the Khammam district with Bhadrachalam as its headquarters are gathering intensity. The TRS had promised to increase the number of districts in the state to 24.
There have been calls to constitute Bhadrachalam district with five Assembly segments of Khammam district, Sattupalli, Aswaraopet, Pinapaka, Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam.
The remaining five Assembly segments, Khammam, Madhira, Palair, Yellandu and Wyra will remain part of Khammam district if the government does agree to reorganise the district. People living in Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem revenue divisions face problems as the district headquarters is quite a distance away.
Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah said that reorganising the districts of Telangana is the need of the hour. “Khammam is a vast district and the distance between Khammam district headquarters to Vazedu, a mandal headquarter in Bhadrachalam revenue division is over 300 km,” he said.
Pinapaka MLA P. Venkateswarlu said that administration would be much easier if the headquarters of the district is near its mandals. He said that TRS government has to fulfil its promise as soon as possible.
