Agency sells fake ticket, cons US-bound techie

Cross World Travels dupes techie of Rs 1.1 lakh after offering a ticket to San Jose on British Airways flight
Bengaluru: A techie, who was travelling from Bengaluru to San Jose in California, not only missed his flight, but also had to shell out Rs 1.1 lakh for booking a last-minute ticket on August 8, as he had been duped by a travelling agency in the city. Before his travel, the victim, Mr Karan Kumar, had made an inquiry for airline ticket booking services on Justdial portal. One of the agencies, Cross World Travels that operated out of Nandidurga Road in Jayamahal Extension, contacted him and offered him a ticket from the city to San Jose via London on a British Airways flight for a fare of Rs 60,000.
Mr Kumar paid through a cheque which was encashed by the travel agency soon after and he was issued an e-ticket. The travel agents told him that he could confirm the ticket a day before his travel. But when he tried doing it on August 7, the website asked him to feed an extra digit in the reference number which his e-ticket did not contain. When Mr Kumar called the travel agency, his calls went unanswered. Sensing something wrong, he went to the agency, but it was not at Jayamahal address anymore.
Mr Kumar had to pay Rs 1.1 lakh for the new ticket and could travel only the next day. He missed two days of his business meeting. His father Anil Kumar lodged a complaint with JC Nagar police, who told him that it was not the first time that the air-ticketing agency was found guilty. “We had received a complaint earlier and when our assistant sub-inspector went to the agency office, the agents refunded the money to the previous complainant,” the police said.
The police have launched a manhunt for the two accused –Waseem Sharif, 25, and Syed, 28 – who ran the air-ticketing agency, and are now absconding.
