Good turnout for engineering counselling in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

Encouraging news for colleges

Hyderabad: Engineering colleges will be encouraged by the Eamcet counselling trends across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, as more than half of the qualified students have turned up for certificate verification.

Verification began on Thursday in Telangana after inordinate delays, and around 55 per cent of the students called turned up on the first day.

In Andhra Pradesh, so far, nearly 60 per cent of the students called have got their certificates verified.

Counselling began on Thursday in about 23 helpline centres in Telangana including Hyderabad.

Each day, students in batches of 25,000 ranks, are being called for verification.

According to official statistics, nearly 11,030 students are from the Osmania University region among the top 25,000 Eamcet rankers, and 54.9 per cent of them turned up for verification on the first day.

In Andhra Pradesh, the numbers were better as about 59.77 per cent of the 52,575 students among the top 90,000 rankers in Andhra and SV University regions turned up.

“A figure of 55 per cent in Telangana is a good number. Delays or not, the top rankers will always go to other colleges, IITs and NITs. As of now the attendance is encouraging,” a senior official of the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) said.
