K Chandrasekhar Rao meets ailing 11-year-old

Sarath had a major operation lasting for over 12 hours, where his heart defects were corrected by surgeons

Hyderabad: Eleven-year-old Konda Sarath could not have asked for more.

Since the last 10 days, he had been telling his parents that he wanted to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and the CM granted his wish on Thursday.

Sarath, from Warangal, came to Apollo Health City in a critical condition, suffering from congenital heart disease.

He had only a single ventricle in the heart and defects in the heart valves and major blood vessels.

He had a major operation lasting for over 12 hours at the Apollo Health City and the heart defects were corrected by paediatric cardiac surgeons.

He also had a very stormy post-operation period and the doctors were very worried about infections.

A senior officer explained, “Although he wanted to meet the Chief Minister we were not sure if his wish could be fulfilled as there was fear of infection.”

Dr Girish Warrier, paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon says, “He has recovered very well. He will now be like any normal child.”

The CM met him when he learnt of the child’s wish. Make a Wish Foundation first conveyed the child’s wish to the CM who agreed immediately.

He also assured the child’s parents that his education expenses would be taken care of. He gave Rs 5 lakh and promised a house for the family.
