Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has decided to give posthumous Sourya Pathakam to T. Eswar Rao, a police constable who was killed in a clash with the fake currency racketeers at Shamirpet on August 1.
The Telangana government will also give Sourya Pathakam to Cyberabad Zonal Task Force sub-inspector Venkat Reddy, who shot and killed a racketeer despite being stabbed multiple times by the gang members.
Telangana home minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy on Thursday said that the government decided to honour the bravery of the policemen.
The police team of Balanagar Zonal Task Force had engaged in a bloody battle with racketeers resulting in the death of two people. While the police constable stabbed to death by the gang members, a racketeer named Mustafa was shot dead on the spot by the SI.
The police team was trying to bust the racket led by notorious criminal Yellam Goud, who is based in Siddipet. Two gang members had fled after clashing with police, and they are still at large. Special teams are still searching for the fugitives.
