CBI asked to probe fraud in Wakf lands

Prima facie it was established that there was ample evidence of misuse and illegalities

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Minority Commission has asked CBI director to conduct an inquiry into misappropriation of certain Wakf properties in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.

Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan, addressing a press conference on Thursday, said that the commission has received 60 complaints in the last one year and following this has called for the records and made enquiries with different departments.

Prima facie it was established that there was ample evidence of misuse and illegalities.

He said that the Commission is empowered to recommend an enquiry under the AP State Mino-rities Act, 1998, Rules 2000, Chapter III Section 12 (1)(d) to look into specific complaints regarding deprivation of rights and safeguards in the interest of the minorities.
