Mumbai: A few years ago, Priyanka Chopra had revealed that she was uncomfortable doing intimate scenes with Anu Kapoor in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf.
Always the one to follow her instinct, Priyanka Chopra knows what would work for her in the long run.
A while ago the actress was in the news for teaming up with Irrfan Khan in Aashi Dua’s Gustaakhiyaa, where she would essay the role of the legendary literary figure Amrita Pritam.
Now we hear that she has opted out of the film.
Reason? Apparently, Priyanka Chopra wanted the makers of the film to cast a commercially viable actor opposite her.
“Priyanka had reservations about being romantically paired opposite Irrfan. The offbeat pairing could have clashed with her very commercial image in her upcoming films like Mary Kom and Dil Dhadakne Do, besides her international popstar avatar. We tried to work things out but unfortunately it didn’t go as planned,” says a unit member of the film.
Priyanka has clarified that she has got nothing against Irrfan. In fact, if anything, she has the greatest respect for him and his work. But despite being associated with quality projects, Irrfan is not seen as a commercial hero.
Gunday was the last film where Priyanka and Irrfan worked together. They got along well during the making of the film.
As regards the final developments on this film a source adds, “We don’t know the final status. Currently, Priyanka is busy with the promotions of Mary Kom. She’ll take a call on it only after the release of the film.”
Her team, however, refused to divulge information on her alleged reservations about teaming up with Irrfan.
