Lalit Modi elected as Nagpur cricket body president

On the same day, a registrar refused to recognised the BCCI's ad-hoc committee for RCA

Jaipur: Defying the BCCI yet again, banned IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi was on Wednesday elected president of the Nagaur District Cricket Association for the fourth consecutive term.

In the elections held at Nagaur, Modi, who is also the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president, was elected chief of the district body which is one of the 33 units affiliated of RCA.

His close aid and RCA secretary, Rajendra Singh Nandu, was elected as secretary.

It can be recalled that it was the post in the Nagaur District executive that had made Modi eligible in accord with the Sports Act 2005 to fight RCA election which saw the end of the Rungta era in state cricket.

The BCCI had warned RCA of dire consequences if Modi was allowed to take any post in RCA or any of its affiliated units. But riding the Sports Act prevailing in state, RCA not only allowed Modi to become president in December but once again defied BCCI to allow him to be elected Nagaur body's boss.

The move might see BCCI red faced as it is trying to take control of cricketing activities in state by forming a Special Cricketing Committee against stiff opposition from RCA.

Office-bearers of Nagaur District Cricket Association: President - Lalit Modi, Vice President - Bhawani Singh, Hon. Secretary - Rajendra Singh Nandu, Treasurer - Shiv Shankar Vyas, Hon. Joint Secretary - Nasruddin Ansari, Executive members - Ashok Kumar and Abhinanyu Singh.

Shot in arm for RCA as registrar comes in BCCI's way:

At loggerheads with BCCI over its the five-member panel reportedly appointed, to look after cricket in the state, the Rajasthan Cricket Association got a shot in the arm when the Registrar of Co-operative Societies here refused to recognise the Board's ad-hoc committee.

According to reports, the BCCI has formed a five-member committee, headed by Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Brijesh Patel, to oversee cricket affairs of disputed associations like RCA, which was suspended when former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was allowed to become its president.

Mehmood Abdi, who is Modi's lawyer, reiterated that RCA would mull legal option if any attempt was made to make an ad-hoc body.

"Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Rajasthan government has clearly affirmed today that under the Rajasthan Sports Act, 2005 any ad-hoc committee can only be formed by the Registrar and no person or association other than the Registrar is competent to appoint Ad-hoc Committee and any such committee will be contrary to Rajasthan Sports Act," said Abdi.

Reacting to the clarification issued by the registrar Abdi, RCA stated that its stand has been vindicated.

In a statement issued here today, Abdi added: "We have also apprised the office of Registrar that RCA has not entered into MOU or agreement which authorises BCCI to appoint any ad-hoc committee and have also apprised him that BCCI is a societies registered under the Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act and even the BCCI constitution does not provide for formation of ad-hoc committee."
