PM Narendra Modi heaps praise on Thambidurai
Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Congress’ floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge escorted the newly elected Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai him to his chair in the front row.
Congratulating the AIADMK leader for being elected as Deputy Speaker, Mr Modi described him as a “multi-faceted personality” and thanked all parties, especially those in the Opposition, to have made his unanimous election possible.
“Thambidurai is a very senior leader and he had earlier served as Deputy Speaker. He is known for articulating his views well in the House and he had also served as Union minister, “ he said. PM assured the Deputy Speaker of “full cooperation” of the government and treasury benches in running the House.
Congress leader Mr Kharge said Thambidurai was “large-hearted” and would help the Opposition to put forth its point of view during debates. Meanwhile, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the unanimous election of her party MP M. Thambidurai as Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker.
