Anavadya shows off her class

She was fascinated by a rare crayon drawing and draw caricatures
Thiruvananthapuram: It was not the kind of random scribbles a two-year-old would make; Anavadya’s little pictures have a style in them. Her parents began collecting the drawings she would make with pens and pencils.
Unlike other children, she was not fascinated by colours, except for a rare crayon drawing. Growing up, her sketches became pictures of the cartoons she watched and the caricatures she saw on newspapers. Today, with a collection of more than 2,500 of her pictures, Anavadya D, a class two student of Pallimon Siddhartha Central School, Kollam, will hold her third exhibition at the Museum Hall in Thiruvananthapuram.
“I like drawing Oggie the cat, Tom and Jerry, Chhota Bheem and Barbie,” said Anavadya. “I also like drawing Chachaji, Gandhiji, Ministers,” she added. Among her new collections are caricatures of politicians, including, Oommen Chandy and VS Achuthanandan. “I draw every evening after coming from school and finishing my homework,” beamed the little girl, who is also good in her studies. Her drawings, most of them in black ink, also have become gifts for her classmates, friends and teachers.
“She draws whatever comes to her mind, we don’t tell her anything and neither is she trained. So she can’t really participate in competitions, where they give a particular subject,” said her mother Reshmy. Anavadya had earlier exhibited her works once at her school, and the next time at the Library Hall in Kollam. The exhibition, in Thiruvananthapuram, from August 14 to 16, will be inaugurated by artist Kattoor Narayana Pillai.
