Violence hits Assam-Naga border; One dead

More than 6,000 people were rendered homeless in upper Assam’s Golaghat district

Guwahati: The inter-state border dispute took an ugly turn on Wednesday when more than 6,000 people were rendered homeless in upper Assam’s Golaghat district following the attack of armed miscreants of Nagaland. Assam home commissioner G.D. Tripathi who was camping in trouble-torn district said that more than 70 houses of disputed B-sector were set on fire. One person was killed in the violence following which para-military forces were deployed in the area. The violence broke out when angry locals were agitating in front of 155 CRPF battalion office at Chetigaon to protest against the abduction of two boys by suspected Naga miscreants.
