Up next—Smart helmets
Smartphones ruled the world after iPhone launched. Presently, smart glasses and smart clothing are doing its rounds. Smart gloves are also in the making, which can control various devices with gestures. Smart watches are currently on sale, which makes life easier. And now smart helmets are next in line.
Skully from Skully Systems, a San Francisco-based startup firm, is a smart helmet and boasts of smart features such as a heads-up display, an incorporated GPS unit and a rear view camera.
The heads-up display, which looks more like a Google Glass fitted to the chin (internally) of the helmet, gives vital information to the driver, such as speed, directions, fuel level and also who is calling on your phone. The visor is fog and glare resistant and scratch-proof.
The Skully AR-1, has a battery backup of nine hours and is certified for use in the United States. It has also acquired certifications internationally by the Department of Transport (DOT) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).
The helmet incorporates a GPS unit, which supplies information to the display for turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, the rear of the helmet is equipped with a rear-view camera.
The Skully AR-1 does not come cheap, though—it will be selling for a whopping $1400. The project is under crowd sourcing and is available through Indiegogo.
Skully Systems is founded by brothers Marcus Weller and Mitchell Weller, who are deeply passionate about enhancing motorcycle safety through technology.
