Telangana State to oppose power for Governor
Hyderabad: The Telangana state Cabinet on Monday disapproved of the Centre’s decision to hand over control of law and order in the common capital area to the Governor. “The Cabinet expressed its concern over the issue and reiterated the stand of the government as already communicated to the Government of India,” a spokesman said.
The Cabinet, which met for four hours with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, discussed the Centre’s decision and decided to oppose any attempt to dilute the powers of the state.
It is learnt that the Cabinet approved Mr Rao’s decision to mobilise Chief Ministers and MPs to take on the Centre. On other issues, Mr Rao was firm on the 1956 cut-off date to determine nativity and to provide fee reimbursement for Telangana students. He asked all the ministers to ensure implementation of the August 19 survey in the state.
The government decided to impress upon the RBI to consider other districts also for loan re-schedulement in view of the widespread damage to crops in the last five years. The Cabinet directed the finance secretary to rush to Mumbai to discuss the matter with RBI.
Agriculture minister P. Srinivas Reddy said that the government had issued orders to release Rs 480.42 crore as input subsidy, which was pending for last five years. The Cabinet also discussed the 3-acre land distribution for landless Dalits from August 15. Mr Rao will launch the first phase from Pallepadu village in Nalgonda district.
